About Andy Nelesen

Andy Nelesen had a tragic end in 2010 with a hemorrhaged blood vessel in his brain. At 38 his passing was much too soon. Andy felt strongly about organ donation and gave everything he could. He wished to donate his organs in order for others to improve their quality of life. As an award-winning journalist in Green Bay and member of the community, Andy took pride in everything including a passion for local live music. The first Wisconsin Donor Dash was May 22nd, 2010 in Green Bay with more than 250 participants. This year's Donor Dash will bring live music and organ donor awareness together with the 5K run and post event live music entertainment in conjunction with the Festival of Speed. This event hopes to capture the spirit and importance of what organ donation provides to the community and organ recipients. Andy was a man of integrity and care that was great by many measures. His final gift was his organs. Through this event we hope we will be able to achieve a greater level of awareness in the community for the benefit of organ donation. With your help and generosity we will be able to honor Andy and promote the benefits of organ donation within the community.

UW Organ and Tissue Donation

By registering your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor in the National Donate Life Registry, you are helping to save lives and give hope to the 110,000 people in the United States currently waiting for lifesaving organ transplants. Thousands more people are in need of tissue or corneal transplants to restore health. One donor can save and heal more than 75 lives. 95% of Americans support donation, but only 60% are registered — help us bridge the gap! Learn more here!
